"Dragons of Wonderhatch" is a Japanese original series released on Disney+ on December 20, 2023. This series is uniquely crafted, blending live-action and animation.
The story revolves around protagonists from two different worlds. Nagi, played by Sena Nakajima, is a fantasy-loving high school student living in Yokosuka. She possesses a special ability to see colors when she hears sounds, making her feel disconnected from her surroundings and often dreaming of flying in the sky. Another main character, Time, played by Daikane Okudaira, is a boy from the alternate animated world of Upananta, where dragons live. Time, who rides dragons, is treated as an outcast in his world due to his inability to hear the dragons' voices, causing him discomfort.
The plot becomes more intriguing as the floating islands of Upananta start to fall from the sky. The two characters, feeling alienated in their respective worlds, embark on an epic journey spanning both live-action and animated realms.
The series also features Mackenyu, Rena Tanaka, Masaki Miura, Riko Narumi, Sumire, and Go Morita. It is directed by Kentaro Hagiwara, with animation direction by Takashi Otsuka. Posuka Demizu, known for "The Promised Neverland", contributed as the character designer and concept artist.
Produced by Production I.G, this series is a significant addition to Disney+'s global content.
